What should I do regarding my start date?

Hi,

I recently got a job offer and they are asking me to start the first, second, or third week of September. I wanted to go on vacation the third week and asked if I can start the fourth week. They said if I really cannot start anytime before, then fourth is fine. However, my recruiter also said that the department is extremely busy that month due to project launches. In the interview process, they also said that they are looking for someone to hire very quickly.

I'm having a dilemma because I didn't purchase my flights yet (however I already purchased admission to the events going on that week I'm going to months prior) so I technically can start earlier - I also said I can be flexible. However, I really wanted to get this trip in before I start full-time work as an adult. How bad of an impression is this if I choose to be firm on my later date, or should I not consider the trip at all? Also, after the initial offer, my recruiter also said that the fourth week is an option to start, so I was kind of led to think it would be ok.

TLDR: Want to start 2-3 weeks after date the company wants me to start. Was planning vacation one of those weeks. If I am firm on my later start date, what kind of impression does this create? Should I not risk this and go with their desired date(s)?
