So I applied for this job back in December. They started reviewing applicants in January and I got a screener interview immediately (late-January at this point). The screener was with who would be my boss in the role, and he told me that they would schedule the second round within 2 weeks. 3 weeks passed, so I reached out, and they said their process was delayed, so I should expect to hear in 1-2 weeks. Today is the 2-week point.
When I applied, I wasn’t in a hurry to leave my current position, but some rapid changes happened and now I’m desperate to get out. I’ve started applying to other positions, and have gone through the 2nd rounds of interviews at other places.
Is there anything I can do outside of following up again, to push this along? I know that I haven’t even made it to the 2nd round yet, but the screener went exceptionally well, and I really want this job. I’m partially worried that I’m a “back up” candidate, and they don’t want to reject me yet, in case the candidates they are moving forward with decline. If they really haven’t scheduled the second round yet, I don’t want to be in the position where I have an expiring offer at another company but still haven’t interviewed for this job (assuming I’m still in the running).
Any tips or insights?
