My experience with job searching during COVID.

So somewhere online (probably this sub) I have read that you shouldn’t discourage yourself from a job because you feel under qualified. Instead, look at it as a way to see if someone will give you a chance to contact you for an interview process. Pretty much just shoot your shot when it comes to job applications.

I’m having horrendous hours (literally earning pennies by this point) at my current job and it’s impossible for me to pick up hours because of how crappy our hours are to begin with. I decided to look for another part time job (that wasn’t retail because I’m starting to burn out with it) and I put my resume up with almost every front desk assistant job that there was for me in my area. I sent in at least 5-9 applications within two days to different employers and I heard back from one for an interview which was a dental assistant that I have ZERO experience with considering the fact that I’ve been mostly taking customer service jobs. I was honestly shocked and so astonished that these people are willing to take the time out of their day to come and speak with me to be a potential candidate for their position.

With a job that I have literally zero experience with but I do meet most of their requirements such as customer service for a year, cash handling, etc.

So if anyone feels lost and defeated because you’re not hearing back or if you feel under qualified, PLEASE DO NOT MISS OUT ON A POTENTIAL OPPORTUNITY.

TL;DR: shoot your shot with job applications even if you feel under qualified. You don’t know who’s going to give you a chance to shine.
