I need to move and my boss said no.

About six months ago I took a job at a fortune 500 company. The job was advertised and hired as fully remote. The company has unleased their office and has a no employee meet up policy for liability with covid. We have employees in most states.

I've been in the same city for 12 years and I realized that I need a change. I've been through some very tough breakups, my friend group has fallen apart (babies) and with the pandemic, I just know I need to move on.

I went to my boss for permission and he said no. He said when covid is over which he says will be June he wants to get his two person team together three or four times a week, company policy be damned. I would not have taken this job had I known that. He said he probably couldn't stop me, but that he would be disappointed if I went. He is a pretty controlling and passive aggressive manager but I'm also learning alot from him.

I spoke to another friend who is a manager at the company that I trust and he said I should just go as it will be a very long time if we ever meet in person, if ever.

I feel stuck. If I go I risk my bosses wrath and losing my job. If I stay im not giving myself the change I need.

I've never been fired or let go or even had a disagreement with my manager before.
