I was recently laid off, and within a couple of days, I received an email from a recruiter from some agency that they heard I was recently laid off from a colleague of mine and that they can help me find a new job.
I found out later from this recruiter who this coworker is, (note: he was not part of the layoff). I'm still in the last few weeks within my company and this coworker has never mentioned to me about doing this nor I am that close to him for me to believe he is doing it for my sake. I assume he gets some kind of referral money from them. This seems pretty shady and unethical, but just wondering how common this is or if happened to anyone before?
