References aren’t robots

I have seen quite a few better established companies do huge reference checks

One insurance company gave me questionnaires with 20 questions that I must send to at least 7 references. I said no thank you

Now one tech company is sending questionnaires of 10 questions to all my references and then I guess they must answer them in a phone call next week. they’re doing it just for HR purposes.

One of my references even seems to have freaked out a little. Who wouldn’t.

This can’t be good

Seriously, this is a very big problem. People don’t have this kind of time. If you worked there and they were happy isn’t it enough? I hear in many countries they don’t even work on a reference system

Any thoughts?
