My company furloughed me due to covid, now they keep calling me trying to force me to resign, this seems fishy to me, any thoughts?

Why would a company force furloughed employees to resign? now they keep calling asking for my resignation letter, I makes me wonder what's in it for them to be so insistent to try to force employees to resign? are they trying to avoid compensation or something?
