Hello all. I will try to be concise in explaining situation. Thanks in advance for input.
I am 27 years old and currently working full time and attending school full time for management ( one year in ). I attended a trade high school (automotive) and went right to work, and landed a mechanic position with a state agency. I was promoted to a team leader role, and passed the supervisor test. I have been with them for 8 years, and work 8am-4pm M-F.
An opportunity has arose with a private sector utility company as a mechanic for a 25% increase in pay, with 2nd shift hours ( 3pm-11pm ). This would equate to $200/week extra in my pocket factoring in 10% - 401k with a 4% company match ( state offered pension ).
I am worried giving up the "team leader" role will hurt my chances after schooling is finished to continue to advance in my field. My intent is to eventually land a fleet management role within a state or federal agency. However the increase in pay is hard to pass, however there are some other factors such as pension/401k, 1st/2nd shift. Medical and tuition reimbursement is equivalent.
