Hello all,
I received a job offer as an information security specialist, but I'm not sure if I should take it. If you were in my position, would you take it?
Pros: An amazing opportunity for me to get my foot into the door of IT.
Would look great on my resume in the future.
Great benefits.
Easy interview process(thanks to networking via college).
My inexperience wasn't overlooked.
Cons: A public trust clearance is required, but I don't know if I'll be able to obtain one because I don't have enough references.--MAY BIGGEST CONCERN
Things to consider:
The pay is $15 an hour (I live in MD)-- I may be under paid. I can not find the average salary for an entry level information security specialist in my area, but the salaries for jobs that are similar are muuuuuch higher.
Security isn't really where my heart is at. I wanted to start out as a help desk technician, which is the reason why I chose to get a Comptia A+ certified, instead of Security+ certified. I was going to dabble in security later down the line on my career.
I want to move out of my parent's home as soon as possible, but Maryland is expensive to live in. So, I don't want to be stuck at low paying job doing something I don't truly desire just because it came easy to me.
On the other hand, the job is a true blessing and I am so grateful for the opportunity!!! I am just scared shitless about the public trust clearance because outside of my family, I literally don't have anyone I could use as a reference and I would need three people who know me well, who isn't family. I don't know what to do with that.
If you were in my shoes, what would you do?
