I applied for a position about a month ago that I thought I wasn't qualified for (wanted 5 years of experience with a PhD, I'm only at 3 years with a Master's), but I actually heard back from the company and had an interview with someone from HR from the company. He mentioned that I didn't have the education and years of experience they were looking for, but I did have a lot of experience with the exact software (which is very niche and hard to come by) they were looking for plus a lot of programming experience. He was going to submit my "scorecard" to the hiring manager to let them decide if they want another interview.
My question is this, would a hiring manager care that I don't have those years of experience and educational qualifications, or is that more of just a HR weeding out hurdle that I've already passed?
