Getting hired without establishing what my pay is?

So I am applying for a job that I’ve worked for in the past, so I would be a re-hire.

The store manager, I’ve worked for before. And the assistant manager and I used to be sales associates together for the same job and now she is the assistant manager.

The ASM informed me that they were looking to hire someone and asked if I would want to work for them again. I said yes, but since they moved locations, it would now be about an hour longer commute than my current job. My current job pays me pretty well but I honestly hate it and the people I work with.

So I apply and put my desired pay, which i put what my current job is paying me. And the ASM said they would probably hire me for the same pay or maybe 25 cents less, but it is ultimately the store managers decision. So the store manager texts me and tells me she can offer me x amount ( $2 LESS) than my current job.

I inform her that I cannot work with this pay as it is a far commute and significantly less than my current pay. She agrees and tells me she will try to see if I can get more. So I said great thank you and to let me know.

A week later she texts me asking when I can start and that she can put me on the schedule this weekend, without establishing my pay and if she was able to get me more. I’m not sure how to go about this because I was under the impression that she would tell me what the pay would be before I was hired. Does this mean she was unable to get me my desired pay?

I’m just so confused and I don’t want to put in my 2 weeks at my current job until I know my pay, because this is ultimately the deciding factor on if I will accept the job offer.
