I never thought I would be experiencing something like this. Just a brief introduction: I work for a chaotic and totally disorganized company where things are decided based on what the owner wants instead of proper rational decisions. People are constantly overwhelmed and under pressure. No need to say how things got completely out of control when the pandemic began and we started working from home.
My department was made of me, my boss and two other coworkers. One of the coworkers was fired right after the pandemic began. Now my boss simply quitted due to being extremely stressful. So there is just me and another colleague.
Me and my colleague are both in the same low level position. It's a very operational position, we don't take part in absolutely any decision. We are very down in the company hierarchy. Not only that, but our pay (terrible pay btw) was also reduced as well as our shifts, since the beginning of the pandemic.
However, in the last few months we have been doing tasks that were done by higher level positions in the past. In the last few weeks my boss had been trying to put us in very tough situations, like making us to replace him in a meeting with a client that would require some important decision to be taken. Obviously the meeting was pointless in the end since no one could come up with a final decision.
So I'm really skeptical about what is going to happen from now on. It's gonna take quite some time to find someone to replace him. Knowing the company as I do, I feel they might throw all the responsibilities over me and my colleague. I don't want to be dragged to an informal managerial position, specially because I won't get paid for that. They would have to triple our salary to compensate. Obviously they aren't doing that.
My boss is going to be in the company for a few more days so we can get some stuff aligned. Based on how he has been behaving, I already know he is gonna make us take most of the responsibility and that's it. He will probably say this is a good opportunity for us to grow and things like that.
I don't really know what to expect. I might wait for a week or so, but I feel me and my colleague should negotiate a new position right away. Or should we wait? Has anyone gone through something crazy like this? This is just insane.
