Volunteered for a non profit, now what do i do?

About two years ago, I met this guy who reached out to me via Linkedin. He saw my education and experience and he wanted to know if I would be interested in helping him start a local non profit. It sounded like a good idea, the mission was great and he planned on expanding it at some point. I thought that this would be great for my resume. He was African-American. I believe that this is important later on.

So he asked me what I wanted to do, and I told him that I wanted to help with all of the human resources and recruiting. He told me that was fine, and I helped him do that and marketing for his non profit as well. I attended fund raisers. The thing that struck me weird was that his whole team was African American, and I am talking about 10 people. That would normally be ok, but we are in a city that is majority Hispanic, and I advised him that some people may not want to donate if they feel like the non profit was only helping out just African Americans. I told him that to get the big donors, he would really need to show that the non profit was inclusive. This was really important since he had little to no money or grants coming in.

Some months go by and I find out that he later fired half of the team because they were not really supporting him, showing up for fund raisers etc. They were only using him and his organization as way to say that they had worked in XYZ position. He also told me that one of the members was starting drama and she only wanted it to be an all black or "pro black" organization. When I asked him what that mean, he told me that they would only help African-American students and schools. He told me that he did not agree with that. We had a hour long conversation and he told me that he was moving out of state, because he had accepted a job and that I would still be involved with the non profit.

So he moved and started another branch where he is now currently. The last time I talked to him on the phone was the middle of January. It takes sometimes days to get a response back. I found out that he later named someone else to be president of the branch here in my city and it was someone from Africa. Now the whole team is African-American. When I mentioned helping out more with community events, he told me that he wanted me in more of a consultant role and that I basically answer to him. The thing that kinda struck a cord with me though is that he had told me that at some point, he wanted me to be in charge of the branch here in my city, but he gave that position to someone else. I never mentioned it.

So I found out today that now, he is coming out with a book on how to open a business and his experience in doing so. Although I helped him out and was instrumental with coming up with ideas for his team and implementing them, I feel like I will not be mentioned at all. I didn't even know he had a book coming out. Idk why but I think that I was being used for my education and experience. I mean yes, I can put it down on my resume, but I wanted to be a part of something too. I also feel like I was used to advance whatever agenda he had because he is telling me one thing, but doing something else. I have not heard anything back in a while..so what would you consider this as? Do you think I should still consider myself as employed by him? Should I reach out to see? I sent a text this morning and still have not heard anything back.
