How much notice is too much?

Hello all!

I just was offered a job, with a starting date of a few months from now. I am a mid-level manager. What is the amount of notice I should provide my current employer?

I am leaning toward at least a month, but I asked for an opinion on that time frame today and was told that's too much time.

What is your opinion on the amount of time you should provide to an employer assuming you have ample notice of a new job?
