Hi everyone! Would appreciate input or direction. So I got my bachelor of nursing degree in 2017, and although I dislike nursing, I did find psychiatric nursing which I love. Mental health and addictions is my passion in life. I worked on an acute psych unit for the last two years as a grad Registered Nurse. The issue is that I truly have no interest in nursing to begin with, along with bad test taking skills due to ADD had caused me to be unsuccessful with my NCLEX exam. In Canada, they switched from the old exam to the states based NCLEX when I was almost done my degree and never got proper NCLEX prep. This exam was really effecting me and my confidence so I decided that life is too short to settle. Why drag myself through this if it’s not my dream job? Why sacrifice my happiness for an exam? I am a very competent and amazing nurse, I am aware of that. I am looking to switch careers to better suit my passion of mental health and addictions. My professional goal is to work for a mental health association and someday pitch my business idea of a rehab in my city that lack resources (detox is closed weekend and holidays.... lol) to someone who would be willing to make it happen. I want to make a difference, but it’s hard to do when you don’t have an “in” or know the right people. If anyone reading this thread has any recommendations or advice on how to go forth with my career transition, I would appreciate it very much.
