My Baby Boomer parents are finally sympathetic to agony of the modern day job search after seeing what I'm going through.

I lost my job two months ago. I am 40 years old and had to move in with my parents.

I have a degree in Accounting, over 20 years of experience, proven excellence in performance, and several certifications.

My parents were both high school dropouts who had cushy federal jobs.

When I was laid off and struggling to find employment, I got the general "you just need gumption!" speech from them.

They have now seen me interview almost a dozen times in the last two months, attend a job fair, they put me in touch with two of their friends to help me get a job (one is a CEO, the other is an Associate CFO), they see me applying to jobs online night and day. They have witnessed me making endless phone calls and even finally following their outdated advice to apply in person.

They are FINALLY sympathetic to the plight of modern day job seekers after originally thinking I just wasn't trying hard enough.

I'm just so discouraged.
