Hi! I love to proofread. When I read books, spotting typos is delightful. Friends ask me to proofread their final drafts. I caught a typo in The Hobbit — a memorable moment for me. At my last job (I'm a project manager) I was good enough at it that the copy editor of a newspaper product we created, would have me scan the final proof — believe it's called a Galley proof at that point — before it went to printers. I find proofreading very satisfying. I would love to get better at it though. Good enough so I can start charging people and use it as a freelance skill. Unfortunately, I don't have any credentials but I would like to change that, which is why I've come to this group. I'm seeking your knowledge. Which direction should I go? Get a certificate? From where? Are there legit online or remote education options? Do I try to specialize in specific style: APA, MLA, CMS etc? Any advice would help. TIA!
