Just got an offer for a better position overall, but I'm still not sure if I want to leave my current job, please advise!
I've been at my current company (startup, biotech) for about a year now, and it's been quite emotionally intense for most of that time: I started in the smallest department and was treated quite badly by the director (verbal bullying + racial microaggressions), and after 9 months of hell, I transferred to a far better department run by a contrastingly wonderful director. Throughout this time, it's worth noting that I've made some great friends and do have some pretty nice benefits: unlimited vacation (which I haven't taken advantage of), free food/drink all day, gym membership, and we're located right by the beach.
With that, I recently found out that the first director offered me a much lower salary than all my peers with the same title with the same degree and experience (we did a poll of 5/8 of these employees and the data shows I was offered exactly $5k less per year than everyone else). I've been furious upon hearing this, especially since I negotiated for higher when I interviewed with the mean director. Since this happened, I told my boss and she kindly said she'd try her best to correct this issue, but couldn't make any promises, which is understandable. Out of frustration, I applied to other jobs and have now been offered a much better role: higher pay, higher title, opportunity to work independently and have more room for creativity. I'd have to move ~80 miles but my parents actually live about 30 miles away from this new job so I could live there temporarily.
Anyway, I'm having a hard time deciding because I don't want to upset my new director who has been an amazing support system and advocate for me. What are your opinions/if you've been through something similar, what did you choose and why? Any advice is much appreciated!
