Stay at current job, or accept a new position elsewhere?

TL;DR: I was promoted 6 months ago and it’s been extremely stressful few months since that change. I applied for a few jobs after having many “bad days” in my new position and this is the first time I’ve gotten to the interview phase. I’m conflicted on how to proceed if they offer me the position. Should I try to make my current job work? Or just go for the new job?

Full details: I’m currently working in the tech industry (not as a developer), and was recruited to this company right out of school. It’s been 8 years since I started, and I have steadily progressed up through the company. I’m making pretty good money now, which has been a nice way to offset my 1h 20 min commute into the office each day.

I was promoted around 6 months ago to a new position, and thought that I would have someone to help mentor me as my responsibilities are now much bigger. Unfortunately not the case, and I’ve been slammed with project after project with no end in sight. My boss has been changed 3 times in the 6 months I’ve been in this new position, and none of them seem to make the time to meet with me about career growth or even basic check-ins.

My position in the company has grown as I’ve outlasted many of the other people I’ve worked with, and I’m known as someone who gets stuff done. I’ve now been dumped with a new project, when I already feel like I’m at my breaking point. After bringing this up with my (multiple) managers, they have said to ignore everything I was doing before and just focus on the new. Problem is, that stuff can’t be ignored and no one is picking it up in my stead. I end up juggling the old and the new and I feel like things are slipping through the cracks, especially since I already feel drained every day due to my long commute.

After many frustrating weeks on and off the last few months, I finally decided to just apply for some new jobs and see what happens. Now have an interview for a new company lined up for a junior position similar to what I’m doing now, so I feel like I can ease into the role better than I did with my current company. It would also have almost no commute time, saving me that effort and cost of commuting.

I’ve got a lot of job security with my current company, but I’m not sure if the day to day crap is worth that, or if I’m better off trying something new? The biggest challenge I have right now is not knowing if what I’m dealing with is normal, as this is the only job I’ve ever had outside of school.

Any advice would be appreciated!!
