I'm working a temp-to-hire job at a refreshments company basically in the distribution/logistics field. They're a snacks/drinks/vending company with drivers that go out and stock the break rooms/vending machines at hundreds of employers around the area with sandwiches, snacks and drinks. We have a warehouse full of large box trucks. Those drivers place orders that get put into our system. We use a system called LightSpeed picking system which is basically long line of warehouse shelves linked together about 50-60 feet long and they have a bunch of product on them. In front of each product is a light with a button near it and an up and down button to adjust quantity. The computer has electrified rails that run the length of the shelf, so based on each pick order the lights light up for the specified number of product that you grab and throw into the bins. A simple enough job, but very fast-paced, as we do tens of thousands of products every day. It is common for us to work 50-hour weeks. They go through a lot of temp employees, but I'm planning to stick it out and get hired on directly with the company. I have about 100 hours left (out of 250 total before you can be eligible for direct hire with the company) and everyone thinks I'm doing a really good job. However, in another area, one of my team leads is very caustic. She has been with the company for 2-3 years. Everyone calls her "Queen" even though it isn't her name. The warehouse people do it and a lot of management there do it. She's just a low-level team lead. All day long, she cusses out loud about this and that. She rants and raves about the other nearby team lead about 30 feet away on the other pick line. She's in her 40's and doesn't like that the other leads are half her age. She's just freaking miserable. She rants and raves about the warehouse people not doing this and that, stands around and watches people in various areas all day, rants about the managers not doing anything, stands and screams out that other people that she doesn't like are "lazy" and all sorts of stuff. The drivers and warehouse people getting products from her area (these are people taking our products for them to be SOLD to customers that we make our money from)...she rants about them. Yes, she gets mad at them for "taking her stuff" that isn't hers. It's like a grocery store employee getting mad at their coworkers for taking x items from their shelves in order to fill promotionals on other shelves in different areas. It isn't their product. It is necessary to sell it to maintain the business.
I don't understand why managers and all of the coworkerss call her "queen" anything. I have heard them say her real name. She's just awful to work with and will rant and rave about you all day long. If she's training you, she'll act like you should learn everything on the first day. She withholds info because she feels that she's no longer needed if she fully trains someone else. How does one deal with that situation? Everyone knows about it, from management down to the lowest of staff. She's notoriously hard to get along with. Everyone's reasoning for this is "that's why they call her queen..." because she's so dramatic for everything. I find that to be absolutely ridiculous, but I'm not going to quit because of it. I'm planning to stick with the company and grow.
Any ideas as to how to deal with this? I just shrug it off and don't let it get to me, but they've gone through so many temps before me who couldn't stand her and didn't last long. I've been told that I have "lasted longer than most" dealing with her. She is a jerk among jerks to deal with and quite backstabbing. She'll tell you to do something one way and then turn around and ask you why you did it that way. Then later on she'll come back and say that you should have done it that way again. I don't know if she has mental problems or just tries her best to be difficult. I could possibly be moved to another area when I go direct with the company in another 100 hours (about two more weeks) or so. She needs to be gone from there. She's awful for the business and the employees. The entire warehouse hates her guts. Why would they be keeping her?
Our company just got bought out by a new company. They've switched out a lot of employees already.
I'm tempted to write an anonymous letter to upper management about how hard she is for the drivers and warehouse staff to get along with when they're trying to do their jobs. She's unhelpful to them when they need product and it is her job.
