Good career options for linguists?

Hi! I'd like to be a linguist, but don't really know where to start.

First things first, I am trying for a trade apprenticeship program, but I don't think I'll make it based on my past attempt. So, I figured I should figure out what I loved doing, and that is learning languages. I'm learning Vietnamese on my own time with Duolingo, and a Vietnamese speaking friend. I found that it really interests me.

I was wondering what kind of career options there were for people who like to speak foreign languages. I saw there were a few with the US military as a Cryptologic Linguist, but I am not sure what that'd entail/require.
