Building a Tool for Independent Workers - UC Berkeley Grad Students

Hello! We are two graduate students at the University of California, Berkeley, and we are conducting research on the future of work, exploring how can we build a functioning "safety net" for independent workers. So far, we have talked to independent workers, platforms, policymakers, advocacy organizations, and companies providing products in this space.

We are building a Compensation Calculator to understand the REAL differences in wages and benefits for independent workers compared to part- or full-time employees. To do that, we need your help, independent workers!

Please help us by filling out this short survey (3-5 minutes!) that asks about your background, household, and income. Your data will be anonymous - we’re just trying to understand how much money workers are making in various gigs alongside the hours they work.

We hope to better understand what you, independent workers, want and need, what motivates platforms to buy into a safety net, and what will spur policymakers to push change.

To share our gratitude, we will send our final research products to anyone who fills out our survey, and survey respondents will also be entered to win a $100 Amazon Gift Card. Please send any questions or interest to [team@indie-hr.com](mailto:team@indie-hr.com). Please fill out the survey here!
