Is it ever acceptable to say "health-related reasons" to explain a gap?

I know the risk - one is that employers think, "took off for what, mental health?"

I'm contracting and actually worried about getting fired simply for asking for time off if I last till July.

I am not swimming in work or working in the sorts of places where I feel comfortable taking off early for doctor's appointments; I am a serial temp and as time goes on it just gets worse and worse re: jobs I'm offered, their length, and the general experience of recruiters/interviewers for perm. jobs telling me my resume is trash (since it is all contract).

I'm effectively thinking of trying to last four to six months and then investigating a surgery; I would need two weeks off to recover.

If there are temps or sparsely employed people here it'd be nice to talk to you.
