How to handle being merged with another company and having new bosses when I thought I was going to head everything up.
About a year ago the division that I worked for was bought by a startup with heavy financial backing. They retained a handful of us and gave the impression that we would be building out our department with all of us as heads as soon as some more deals close.
One of the deals that they were closing was a consulting group that was similar to ours. When the deal closed we were told to go introduce ourselves to them. At this meeting we were told to update them on all of our projects and that they were our new bosses.
Things were rather awkward for both sides following that meeting.
My question is this: I’m fine with working for someone else, but there is still awkwardness and a very uncomfortable environment developing. These people need help and leadership, but they aren’t wanting it from me nor do they really respect anything I say. They know that we thought we would be building this department and I feel that they think we may not want to work for them. How do I survive this transition???
