What do I say to potential employers after being out of work and study for a year for health issues?
I (24F) left a teacher training course in October because my mental health went extremely south. I have complex ptsd, anxiety disorder/agoraphobia and severe depression. My doctor has certified me as not fit for work and she says I need to give myself at least 6 months - 1 year to work on this. When I eventually go back to looking for work (I don't think I'll go straight back to teaching) what would I say? Previously I was doing a mathematics degree (BSc) and then went on to an MSc which I also had to leave due to mental health issues, but at the time there was nothing my doctor could do so I tried to go into teaching which I had always wanted to do, but obviously it was far too much to cope with and everything got worse. Especially when my anxiety is so bad it causes me not to go outside for long periods of time, holding down a job isn't really possible. Is it going to be offputting for employers if I mention I took time out of working for these reasons and how can I phrase it best? I'm guessing a lengthly explanation is probably too much or should I go into detail?
It's also worth mentioning I've had a few different part time jobs before and once worked full time for a year as a teaching assistant but that was 3 years ago now. I've never had a job through going through an interview though. I've had interviews, too many to possibly count, but I am terrible at convincing an employer I'd be good for a job even when I really want to do it and know I would be good. Everything I say comes out really flat toned... I've only ever had a job because the employer knew me personally beforehand and knew I wanted work so was willing to reach out and offer me a job. It's kind of disheartening to me that I've never had a successful interview, I'm really worried when I'm better that I'll never make it through the interview phase. I've tried trying to sound enthusiastic but it sounds really fake and my voice goes dry like I'm trying too hard. Sometimes the pressure of getting a job during the interview is so much that I realise if I don't get it I'm going to be in severe financial trouble that I can't stop myself from crying in the interview and then it's basically all over. How can I get past this?
tl;dr - I will be out of work for a long time because of mental health issues, how do I tell a future employer this and how do I sound better during an interview and not uninterested?
