Quitting my job, leaving the country in ~10 weeks. What to do?

Hey guys, recent college grad (May 2018) I'm leaving my entry level marketing analytics job here in the US after what will be about 10 months of working there to move to Japan to teach English. Without getting into the details, I'm taking about a 55% pay cut and going into a job with no real job growth potential, but I do have a plan for arriving and creating/finding meaningful work.

With March quickly approaching I had some thoughts & questions about what I can do with my last bit of time here:

As much as I personally hate this job (3 hours commuting/day, staring at spreadsheets all day mostly, and just generally boring work.) I can luckily say that I have no qualms about the people I've worked with and I think they'd say the same.

I haven't put in my resignation yet, but I plan on giving my current job about a month's notice. With that being said, I don't want to put it out there what I plan on doing -- mainly because it's a bit embarrassing to be leaving something so stable for this.

  • How do you guys resign from jobs in a way that preserves privacy but doesn't seem cold?
    • Especially since I'll still be working with these people for roughly a month after telling them I'm quitting. Things like maintaining a positive attitude, work ethic, and good relationships with those I work with; in case I would need a reference in the future. (even though I've been here for such a short amount of time)

Even before accepting this job, I knew that I was ultimately going to be leaving it just shy of a year.

Also

The company I work is actually hiring more people for my position as we are currently severely understaffed. We are having a hard time finding people for the position because it's just a niche field and job description. Again, it's a good company and my department is filled with very kind people. However, we do not have a work from home policy and it's generally frowned upon unless absolutely necessary even though my job can be entirely done from home. Even if we are able to fill my position & hire another person before I leave, the marketing department will still be in a bind for a while.

  • Do you guys think that I could leverage my <1 year stay and experience with the company to land some sort of part-time remote work for the company I'm currently at?
    • I haven't been here for that long, and asking for something already not in our company culture/policy just seems like I'll be laughed at. But our industry is so niche that even though I've only been here for 10 months, finding someone else to do the job will STILL result in the company needing to spend roughly 6-8 months training someone. Hell, we recently got a new hire who's 2 pay-grades above me in my role, but I've been the one training them for the last 2 months. (which is fine)
  • If I want to try to leverage my limited, but certainly valuable time here, do you think I could do it? IF so, should I put in my resignation FIRST? Or mention to my boss that I'm 100% leaving, but that I'd be available to work in some other capacity?

TL;DR - just read the bullets :)
