Offered a job - does this sound like a good idea or should I wait for something better as a new grad?
Hello,
So basically I just graduated with a B.S. in Environmental Science this winter (took some extra time off abroad). I'm back home with my parents in Southern California rent free. I started about 3 weeks ago applying to jobs at big consulting firms at entry level field biologist/planner/tech positions but no luck yet (although I've heard it takes awhile to get the ball rolling).
I did get an offer at as a naturalist at a summer camp-like job. Work is T - F (ends at 1 pm Friday) with long hours with a pay of $15/hr in a high cost of living area where 1 single bedrooms are going for ~$1k/mo (1 bedroom in a shared house). However, they did say there would potentially be free housing in a single cabin or trailer. But I'm always paid for 40 hrs of work. So with free housing I would be netting close to $2k take home. However there is no summer work as its September - May. I think this would be a good temp job until summer to find a full time position or focus on grad school. But I will only take the job if it offers the housing.
How should I word it or tell him that I would only accept if there was housing included? Or should I just stay home and keep applying for a more stable job with benefits? I'm trying not to throw away a good opportunity but I don't know if its stable enough and I definitely can't live well in that area on $15/hr (tourist town in California).
