My current role, despite being associate level, has a very entry-level title: "Investment Service Representative". Compared to what we do day-to-day it's like calling a "regional sales executive" a "cashier", like calling a "Landscaping designer" a "gardener". I hate looking at my business cards and hate seeing what sounds to me like "customer service rep" on my resume. I am otherwise happy with the job, it's pay, and growing responsibility other than this awful title.
My small team is still considered in development and more and more responsibility and scope is being added (by our direction) every quarter. I am a leading member of this small team.
I have enough pull, and my team has enough distinctiveness and influence to ask for this but I am just not sure how.
How can I bring this up and negotiate to change our title to something more reflective of our responsibility?
