Getting jobs outside of your area tips?

So I personally would like to move out of my current area. I just hate the culture of people where I live. People here just drink, hunt, watch sports, or do religious things. That's all well and good, until you find out thats ALL ANYONE does. If you don't like any of those where I live, you're like some social outcast.

Aside from the rant, I'd love to move to a better city in my state which definitely has a position I could easily qualify for. Things that I sort of get standoff-ish about are things like: doing interviews long distance, moving apartments, and lastly moving my furniture. How do any of you do it? It's not hard, it's just an incredible amount of stuff to do at one time that I feel like it's only possible if you're renting month to month. I don't want to sign a year lease, get a job halfway through, and then pay 2 rent bills just to get the better job elsewhere. It would take years to come out ahead after doing that.

I mean what do you guys do? Do you basically live in a studio apartment and have like no furniture? Honestly if I got rid of most of it, I don't see the moving part being a problem, nor the interviewing part. But coordinating an apartment move in date along with getting a job, plus moving all my stuff just seems like a daunting task. I wouldn't be making a "lot" more than I am now, but I'd definitely be in a better culture in a city with better public transit and I could live on a lot less.
