Hi r/jobs,
I've been working part-time with my company (in retail) for a bit over two years now. I started when I was in college, and was really happy because of the scheduling flexibility they gave me. I would work anywhere from one day a week during the academic year to 4 days during breaks, and was able to be "seasonal" for months at a time while I did internships. After college, I quit, but was unable to find a job with my degree. I asked my manager (who became a friend of mine over the years) for my job back, and she gave it to me. This is all to say that I have been there a long time, though not necessarily consistently, which might be seen as a flaw on my part.
Two weeks after getting my old job back, a member of the leadership team quit and my manager offered me the position. I've already been training for it; it's absolutely mine if I want it. The job function is very different from what I do now, but, if needed, I will have to attend to the duties of my current position over the course of a shift. So I see it as ADDED responsibility rather than different responsibility.
Traditionally the leadership team's wages are a bit more than the rest, but there are company-wide wage increases coming at the end of the month. I'd be pretty content to stay in my current job with the wage increase, but would like to take the new position (with a slight increase in wage) because it has more hours and a set M-F 9-5 schedule.
*TLDR* Can I ask to get more money than other people when I already have a scheduled raise?
