First full time (entry level) job, 50k salary, Should I negotiate for more or ask for transportation reimbursement?
Hi guys, I’m 24F, I just had an offer for a job working as a coordinator in a hospital. The salary is 50k and honestly, I’m pretty grateful since this is my first full time job out of college. There are benefits and 401k plan. However, as well as the usual full time weekdays, I would be working Saturday as well. Also, I don’t have a car, and by public transportation, I would be looking at a 1.5 hr commute so 3 hrs total a day. Is it wise to negotiate for a higher salary or ask at least to cover the transportation cost and be specific about being reimbursed for the commute (it would be about almost $4000/yr for the commute cost)? I am also being trained for the job because I’m not familiar with the database they use in the hospital, but I am very experienced working in a healthcare setting which is probably a big reason why they hired me. Is this okay to ask for or should I just suck it up and be appreciative of the fact I have a job offer after months of searching? I am still incredibly happy to have found this job but I just want to make sure everything is accounted for since this is my first full time job!
