Hello! I am trying to relocate to another state. The area that I want to move to would be a pretty easy and quick move. Housing isn’t an issue. My parents live there, so I could easily move in with them if I am offered a job. I feel like if I’m offered a job, I could probably start within 3 weeks. Maybe even a little sooner. Id just need to give my current employer notice and then need a few days to get my stuff to my parents house. In my cover letter, I’ve written that I plan to move to the area but I still feel like being out of state is definitely turning off potential employers. About a week ago, I received a call asking if I could come in the next day for an interview. I’d really prefer to do the first round as a phone/Skype interview but I’d have no problem flying down there for a second interview (but I’ve never said this to any future employer). I explained to the interviewer that I live out of state, and they said they would check to see if they could arrange a phone interview and I never heard back. Today I heard from another company and they asked me if I plan to move to the area soon but didn’t invite me for an interview yet. I was hoping for some advice before I responded. I would like to move to the area as soon as possible, but need to have a job lined up first. I’ve been at my current position for 10 years, and really don’t want to have to resign, move, and then look for a job. My hope is to try to line up a job and then move. I really think I could make this happen relatively quickly. Any tips/advice on how I can make it clear to employers that I’m super serious about relocating and I could do it quickly so they consider me?
