I made the mistake of revealing my current salary on the job application form.
What I did (changed the occupation and salary a little): Current occupation: Retail Sales Associate Current Salary: 50k
Met someone from HR for the job offer.
The new post: Senior Retail Sales Associate The offer: 50k
He looked at my job application and said that they will match my current salary (50k), as he has to protect the internal equity of the company. Despite the higher job function and added tasks, the salary remains the same.
I checked the market rate for this post and asked around, the position's average pay is 60k to 70k.
Is there room for negotiation if he claims he is protecting internal equity? What should be my next steps since I am already at a disadvantage for throwing out a number?
Would really appreciate advice.
