Would you choose Job A or Job B?

Would you stay or go given these facts, and why?

Of course I want to make the best choice for my long term career but the thing that weighs heavily for me in the short term is that I’m a new mom who values a flexible schedule and short commute. Thanks in advance for some external perspective!

Job A (Current job)

The good:

-Love the team and get along with boss

-The work is fine, don’t hate it don’t love it

-Fairly flexible work schedule

-Manger level role with direct reports to establish leadership skills

The bad:

-Future at company is fuzzy...no clear growth plan, possibly boss doesn’t think I qualify for more senior title/responsibilities since I haven’t been promoted in a few years. Can’t say I’m a rockstar or irreplaceable so maybe I am mediocre?

-Promoted only once in the last 6 years

-Raise only from 60k to 69k, including promotion, merit increases from positive reviews, and yearly COL adjustments

-Long commute

-A lot of work, often requires night/weekend

-Hard to progress to next level in career without exposure to new skills within the industry, which may be hard in current role.

Job B (New Job)

The good:

-Higher salary 75k-80k, comparable benefits

-Very short commute

-Possible exposure to new skills

The bad:

-Role is kind of a step down to associate level. May be an interruption of my career growth.

-No direct report, will be lowest on the food chain again. No one to delegate work to.

-A completely new industry so steeper learning curve

The Unknown:

-Workload

-Office and team culture

-Growth opportunity

-Flexible schedule
