Just went through one of my more painful days. Over the past few weeks I've gone through the interview process with a few different companies, all of whom were at the final decision stage. I figure I have enough irons in the fire that one of them should work out, right?
Rejection 1: I get an automated email from the company this morning saying they're going with someone else. Seems a little impersonal considering how much time I spent with them, but whatever.
Rejection 2: The recruiter calls me in the afternoon and breaks the bad news. This one hurts a bit more, since I felt like I had a good shot.
Rejection 3: The final blow. The hiring manager and I had a great rapport, I was referred by an executive, and I'm already doing this job for another company. The interviews go well, and the hiring manager sends an email the night before asking to connect this evening to discuss next steps. I get on the call, and he says they're going with an internal candidate.
Brutal. Why would you set expectations and get a candidate's hopes up? Why would you title the invite "Discussing next steps"?
This post is mostly to rant, but today was a very rough day.
