Hi everyone, I'm just going to make this short, but a little background on myself: I've been steadily employed all my life (I'm now 25) but I struggled for a few years coming out of high school and ended up addicted to drugs and engaging in a lot of criminal behavior. I changed my life completely 3 years ago and I'm free of all that craziness now. I think my charges are 4 years old at this point, but I'm still on probation.
It's hard to go into an interview knowing I'm fully qualified but I may not get a second look once I mention this one thing. I've been turned away by a staffing agency for not mentioning it by the middle of the interview because I guess they already knew about it before I got there. I've spent so much time debating in my mind, when is the right time to bring it up? I feel like it's not the best to wait until they mention the background check, but if I bring it up and there is no background check I feel like I'm discrediting myself without needing to. Is it alright to wait until they mention it first?
Thanks for reading!!!
